ILG Wins GDBA Environmental Culture Award!

“I am thrilled to share that ILG has won the Environmental Culture award at the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards! This prestigious recognition highlights our unwavering commitment to sustainability and the incredible efforts of our Environmental team, Green Champions, and each one of our employees.

Thank you to the ILG team for your hard work and passion. Let’s continue to lead the way in sustainability!”

Tom Ashley, Managing Director, ILG

As part of our entry we had to demonstrate the changes that have been made over the past 12 months, and show that employees are fully engaged and understand the objective.

ILG’s environmental journey is framed by tangible actions, measurable achievements, enthusiastic workforce engagement and planet-friendly values which are shared with many of our customers.

From our ambitious ‘Zero-By-Thirty’ initiative and carbon reduction successes to our ISO14001 accreditation and EcoVadis Silver Award, each milestone illustrates our dedication to safeguarding the environment. Our initiatives go beyond carbon reduction to encompass eco-friendly waste management, sustainable packaging and nurturing a culture of environmental responsibility among all our employees.

As well as our ‘top-down’ sustainability strategies we employ ‘bottom-up’ tactics to drive a culture of environmental responsibility to cover everyday tasks in the workplace.

We are very proud of our success in engaging with our employees to instil the importance of environmental protection and promote sustainable behaviour. We track staff engagement via our annual staff survey. The most recent survey (in July 2024) showed that 89% of ILG staff believe we are an environmentally responsible company (up 9% on last year) and that 85% of ILG staff feel positive about our ESG rating (up 7% on last year). These show that our efforts to educate and motivate our people to act more responsibly are working.

Our goals for 2025 and beyond reflect our ongoing commitment to excellence in sustainability and we aim to inspire positive change across the logistics industry.

We’re so proud to have been recognised for this award and all of our environmental achievements to date but to hit our ambitious ‘Zero-By-Thirty’ goal, we have more work to do including:

  • Achieve ‘Excellent’ or ‘Outstanding’ BREEAM ratings on all facilities by closing or upgrading energy-inefficient sites and replacing with modern, high-spec facilities
  • Replace all remaining internal combustion engine fleet vehicles with EV equivalents
  • Rework collections and deliveries to minimise the miles covered by our suppliers
  • Introduce rainwater harvesting solutions at all suitable sites
  • Install solar panels and EV chargers at all suitable sites
  • Achieve EcoVadis Gold certification in 2025
  • Set up a sustainability dashboard on our website to improve reporting and transparency of progress on our road to ‘Zero-By-30’
  • Work with a solution partner to find ways of offsetting any unavoidable impacts (our goal is to offset no more than 10% of our emissions by our target date of 2030)

Find out more about what we’ve achieved so far and what our goals moving forward are in our ESG e-book.
