Celebrating World Day for Cultural Diversity

We are celebrating the UN’s ‘World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development’ by taking a closer look at the wonderful diversity that we have within our own ILG workforce.

ILG is committed to creating an inclusive, equal and diverse workplace, breaking bias and celebrating people who are often under-represented in the workplace.

Although the UK logistics and warehouse sector can stereotypically be depicted as male-dominated, we are proud that 41% of our employees are female, which is nearly double the UK industry average of 22%. Our workforce also represents a huge variety of nationalities, with 40% identifying as of non-British origin, and a wide range of ages – from 16 to 70 years old.

At ILG, we actively support the recruitment of people with disabilities, either via the WorkAid and Track schemes for those with autism or learning difficulties or via Workability for carers and people with hearing loss or other disabilities. 10% of our workforce identify themselves on the autistic spectrum.

ILG has also been an active participant in the DWP’s Kickstart scheme, providing young people at risk of long-term unemployment and on universal credit with six months of paid work experience and skills development. The Kickstart scheme at ILG was so successful that DWP created a video about ILG’s involvement, and Minister for Employment Mims Davies MP visited us to meet some of the Kickstart staff – find out more about her visit here.

We also support people looking to gain job application skills. Working with KickStart and Crawley Open House we offer work search support, transferrable skills development, mentoring, CV skills and interview workshops.

To attract and maintain an equality-focused workforce, we ensure all ILG staff receive mandatory training for autism awareness, as well as annual training in equality and diversity, and ethics and conduct. Also, we recently introduced a course in deaf awareness to better support our employees with hearing loss.

We have even bigger ambitions to improve our company’s diversity, through future projects in the pipeline with Surrey Care Trust, and rehabilitation and employment schemes for ex-offenders. ILG is proud to be making great strides in incorporating inclusion and celebrating diversity across our business.
